[udig-devel] Re: A uDig test release

Hi uDiggers,

I tested the Mai30th version of uDig in a German environment on WinXP SP2.

Installation and uninstalling is fine, although English.

uDig started fine, and my previous map loaded fine as well.

I checked the German help then:
- On the news page some external links had been converted into ugly replacement texts saing
"Cannot resolve external resource into attachment"
I have therefore replaced these external links to embedded icons.

I expect this to be an issue on the English "What's new" page as well, since it uses external references as well. Please check!

- On the german tutorial page "Home" -> "Anleitungen" -> "Schnelleinstieg" some images are not shown (instead their names are) and a bullet is not shown (#* instead). The funny thing is that the images exist on the internet version of the page and the bullet is fine there as well. So I cannot even correct anything ...
Has the routine creating the online help choked on something in this page?

- The "ä" in the (automatically generated) table of contents are not shown correctly as a special character. Wrong character encoding again, I'd say.

Furthermore:
- The help GUI is English, not a big deal though.
- The menu "Werkzeuge" (tools) is show on the right of the menu bar, right of "Fenster" und "Hilfe" (Views and Help) This is unusual and against all conventions. This top level menu only contains the "Stop rendering" menu entry, btw. Maybe other companies with extensions see more entries there.

- Adding scalebar, grid and legend now works for me.
  Two times it would tell me that the scalebar layer could not be rendered, but I cannot reproduce
  this at will. After adding a legend the scalebar it always works again. Hmm...

- Export to png works. I only spotted a translation mistake. My bad.

- I found a new (and untranslated) dialog listing all operations. I wonder if I have overlooked it last time I did the translations or is it crept in very recently?

I did not test editing, database access and the like. But for viewing it looks very much usable.
