Good work on figuring out the chain!
I took one look at the confluence page and gave up. Unless the
refractions folk tell me that it will work with input from Ubuntu into
confluence, it's not really worth starting...
Once it's possible, then I'd want to have a trial session where I edit a
file, save it and the uDig powers that be (Jody?) suck it into uDig help
and make sure it looks okay. (or tell me how to do that whole chain).
After that, it will be worth looking at the translation work.
Encodings are fun and need love to figure out. :-)
