I did not see any problems with the port parameter type, so I guess you
can close that one.

I do have permission to edit the table. I created a point feature in
SQL, then added the layer in uDig using the same user account. The layer
does not appear to be read-only... if it's read-only, it should have a
red X on the icon beside the layer name, right?

Just with the Oracle layer. When I add a shapefile, I have no problem
editing the styles and no exceptions show up in the log.

I guess it's using the 1.6 JRE, although I also have 1.5. This is on a
laptop running Ubuntu 7.10. I am using Oracle 10g Express Edition.
