My bad; I write these emails while I wait for a build (so sometimes I 
appear more scattered than I actually am :-) )

 From the eclipse menubar: Window > New Window (first item in the menu)

A second "Work bench Window" will be opened; you can do with it what you 
will.

While we are here;...open an editor and select:
- Window > New Editor (second item in the menu)
- you can drag the editors around so you can see both at once.

You can quickly have the same file open multiple times; and watch what 
happens to the view / selections and menubars as you work.
Each workbench window can be in a different perspective etc...
