- I create a new layer with geometry type "Polygon",
- save the new layer in shape file,
- close my udig session,
- open a new udig session and load the shape file,
- consult the  layer property, now the geometry is "Multipolygon" (must be polygon)


Note: I tested using the export option and found the same problem
