Abend using WMS if second JRE on path
-------------------------------------

                 Key: UDIG-1311
                 URL: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/UDIG-1311
             Project: uDIG
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: wms
    Affects Versions: UDIG 1.1-RC12
Environment: Windows XP SP2 ver 5.1.2600
Java 1.6.0_02-b06 (as shipped with Windows distribution of RC12)
            Reporter: Stephen Kilburn
            Assignee: Richard Gould
            Priority: Critical

I installed uDig 1.1 RC12 on a system to do some basic testing. Installed with all defaults from Windows distribution. Program abended with "JVM terminated. Exit code=1" (etc.--the text cannot be highlighted and likely is irrelevant). Steps to problem:

-Start uDig
-Create new project
-Create new map
-Drag WMS to map from Web Catalog (e.g. Atlas of Canada)
-Select a layer, Press Finish

After a lot of head scratching, I discovered that the problem goes away if I remove the JRE for my JDK from the system path. (Strangely, this is exactly the same subversion as that shipped with uDig.) Similarly, if I run uDig specifying the JDK JRE as the -vm the problem also doesn't occur.

Apparently something in the RC12 WMS processing goes looking for something on the path when doing a WMS draw. This should be tracked down and corrected before the final version is released so that there won't be problems if someone wants to use a dedicated JRE for uDig but has other JREs on the path.
