Yes, we are using that.

Hmm, I don't see any such method in 
Catalog.  (org.geotools.catalog.Catalog is the only such class I can 
see).  But anyway I'll ask my guys to look further into this.

Ok.  We are using postgis at present, but that might conceivably 
change (some of our customers are requesting other databases to meet 
their IT constraints) so a method which doesn't assume postgis would 
be preferred.
