The folks we work with in Venice built the centerline and set it to us.
They are a fascinating Urban Studies group lead by Fabio Carrera:

Love to, you guys have been a great help for us getting going with GPS.

Very quickly, some of our plans are:
  - Add shapefiles to NetLogo. Stephen Guerin, the owner of Redfish.com,
has already converted a shapefile to an internal format that we import
fairly simply. It was done as a Python shaplib script, outputting a text
file the NetLogo could import and parse. But we're thinking an extension to
NetLogo, which is Java based and has extension capabilities, would be great.
  - Interface GIS to Agent Based Modeling, a simulation technique popular in
the Complex Adaptive Systems community. The idea is to have agents with
their own "local behavior" live and evolve within a GIS landscape.
  - Interface the above to game engine and advanced 3D modeling systems like
Blender. The idea would be to have some sort of "pipe" interface between
the Model (ABM), Data (GIS) and View (uDig/Blender/GoogleEarth)

That's pretty weird, but we think good simulation simply cannot occur
without GIS. Sketchup, uDig and NetLogo are bringing advanced concepts to
"the rest of us". Blender, Processing.org and more advanced analytics,
especially R, are letting the simpler stages be quick prototyping systems,
and the latter provide knock-your-sox-off immersive experiences.
