Hello:
Answering your questions:
1. What renderer are you using?
Do not understand the question. To display the layer we use the "AddtoMap" method from Utils.java class from http://svn.geotools.org/udig/community/lavila/plugins/org.cgiar.cip.diva.utils
2. What style are you putting on the Style Blackboard
None, we writing directly into the file.
3. What is the new type of file?
Grid file (*.grd (with the main info and style info) +*.gri (with the binaryData))
I am sending an example of a gridfile (you can open a gridfile in your uDig workbench by adding plugin http://svn.geotools.org/udig/community/lavila/plugins/org.cgiar.cip.diva.catalog.addingridfiles and http://svn.geotools.org/udig/community/lavila/plugins/org.cgiar.cip.diva.utils)

The Style editor Dialog in which we are working into is in another plugin that is not yet published, but this plugin (in which we use the old Style Editor View) has the same idea http://svn.geotools.org/udig/community/lavila/plugins/org.cgiar.cip.diva.legend.grid <<gridfile.zip>>
