[udig-devel] Problem with attrib "the_geom"?

Sorry .....  I think we got confused :S

We have developed some plugins  depending on this attribute 
name in shapefiles geo resources. We try to extend them to work 
with Oracle resopurces that uses other synonyms like "GEOM" or 
"GEOMETRY", as Paul said.

Obviously, in order to generalize plugins, we must chek the default
geometry name and use it to get the Geometry object.

Shape files don't have a geometry name... the column only has a name 
when assigned by a system that hooks the geometry and attributes 
together into one tuple.  ESRI uses "SHAPE" as their default geometry 
name in Arc*. PostGIS, as noted uses "the_geom" (thanks, Dave). Some 
other systems use "GEOM" or "GEOMETRY".
