[udig-devel] Free Form Text Labels In UDig

Does UDig currently support "free-form" text labels? (By free-form I
mean a note placed on a map that is not directly tied to a feature.)

I need to write a test for some new rendering code in OpenJUMP and I
was going to implement some limited support for this type of label.
The basic concept is that the user selects the location for the note,
selects text height, font, text color, etc. and the label is created
and rendered on the map screen.

I thought I would send a quick e-mail over to you UDig folks to see if
you had already worked on something similar. I know that we can't
share rendering code because of the SWT/Swing differences, but I
thought we might be able to share an interface or implementation for a
free form text label and possibly a file format for the storage and
transfer of such labels.

It would be great if someone could create free form text labels in
OpenJUMP and then import those labels into UDig, or the other way
around.

I'm sure you guys are all very busy, but if any of you are interested
in sharing some code on this please let me know. I will start my work
on the code next week.
