I am an old C programmer who has been tasked to rearchitect 20 yr old code
onto a new Linux box. I am currently surveying open source geotactical
products. I see three primary requirements:
1- rendering of map products with typical map controls (pan, zoom, etc.)
2- polygon overlay construction through both a user interface and also via
code which is triggered upon receipt of an overlay data from a network or
serial feed.
3- automatic symbolization of track data
It appears that uDig satisfies these. Do you see a weakness with respect to
these requirements?
Does uDig have foreign language support (interested in Hangul and Japanese)?
Is there something in Java that would allow me to define text strings from a
resource file (like Motif)?
Does uDig have a command line interface? Can I construct script files that
zoom, create graphics, etc without navigating a GUI? This is especially
useful as a menu executive where I can grey out panes or add launch
arguments to a client process.
Can someone recommend a good form handler? I would like to allow my users
to create and customize their client dialogs.
Finally, is this post appropriate, or is there a better forum to ask these
questions?
Thanks,
- Philip Heineman
