Jan,

We received 12 applications, and selected 9 as doable. In the end, 3
were funded by Google.

The three funded applications were:

GDAL ImageIO integration by Daniele Romagnoli

"The goal of this proposal would be investigate the possibility to
use the ImageIO Tools extensible architecture in order to encapsulate
the GDAL library behind ImageIO plugins exploiting and eventually
extending the current SWIG Java bindings for GDAL itself. This would
allow the GeoTools developer to access (read and write) many more
coverage formats by implementing the proposed solution for ImageIO
plugins and wrapping them inside GeoTools grid coverage plugins."

uDIG GPS Record Import and Spatial Report Processing by Dan Eslinger

"The project that I would like to implement is a GPS import plug-in.
Since the NMEA format is the most widely used format for reporting
GPS related information, the plug-in will be constructed to decode
NMEA sentences. The plug-in will take a previously logged file that
contains NMEA messages and import the following NMEA sentences
normalized by time"

Coordinate System Transformations by Jan Jezec
