If FEATURE_QUERY is on the map blackboard with a Filter or a Query any FeatureSources/Stores returned from a layer should be a view (see DataStore#getView()).    using that filter or query.  See javadocs of net.refractions.udig.project.interceptors.ShowViewInterceptor for more details.
