The eclipse RCP gui has been carefully designed to greet users with a welcome screen. This is cluttered/rendered much less elegant by uDig popping up a 'tip of the day'.

On first launch I DON'T NEED A TIP! Perhaps, I need an introductory tutorial---the tip may therefore make no sense.
