I created a shapefile map and set the layer colors (line, polygon colors). The layer name texts in the layer view reflect these changes. Then closed uDig and reopened it. Afterwards the layer view texts have colors that do not necesserily correspond to the layer's styling colors any more. I guess this is not intended, is it?
Changing the layer colors (via styling dialog) afterwards does not change the layer name text colors any more.
