In the uDig User's Guide under "A Simple Project"->"Using the new button" The documentation refers to a shape file directory located in the uDig Install directory which does not exist.  This text should be updated with the link to the zip file with the example shapefiles ( which is currerntly hidden at the bottom of the page).
